Exciting Day Trips From Los Angeles CA

I may have been born in the New York City area, but I’ve lived in Los Angeles for the past 25 years and firmly consider myself an LA girl. While I adore my city, I do love a quick get-out-of-town refresh. After a quarter of a century here, I’ve done a lot of exploring. Having spent time all over Southern California, from wine country and beaches to deserts and esoteric art installations, Southern California has a lot to offer and it’s all just a short drive from Los Angeles.

Whether you’re visiting from out of town, or you’re a local looking for a change of scenery, I’ve got you covered with fabulous getaways from the city of angels. When it comes to the best day trips from Los Angeles, CA these are my 17 must-see spots.

  1. Joshua Tree National Park

Distance from Los Angeles: 2 hours 15 minutes

One of my favorite Southern California day trips, Joshua Tree is known for its incredible rock formations, twisting Joshua trees, cholla cactus gardens, and winding hiking trails, but Joshua Tree isn’t just for rock climbers and hikers. The park is easily one of the most beautiful National Parks in the United States and there are plenty of unique things to do in Joshua Tree National Park that are accessible to people with disabilities.

Part of what I love so much about Joshua Tree is that it’s very easy to drive through the park and pull over at many of the biggest attractions. One doesn’t need to hike the many trails to tour the good stuff. Though, there are a few wheelchair-accessible, easy trails most anyone can enjoy. I’ve taken elderly family members with mobility issues here on day trips from Los Angeles and it’s always tremendous fun.

If you’re looking to stay longer than a day, you can easily camp in Joshua Tree. Wheelchair-accessible facilities are also available.
