TY @BGSU for the opportunity to engage with the student nutrition and dietetics, exercise science and sports psychology communities. Talking about navigating, my career with tenacity, veracity, some audacity and sweat equity. To resonate, educate, motivate and get the buy in to we must have #conversationsoverconfrontations, be relevant, respect all cultures and acknowledge issues around access, affordability, environment, culinary ability by ensuring we #listentolearn. The narrative is our clients, athletes and patients- we can offer suggestions but ultimately the decision about how to implement recommendations on nutrition is not ours to make. #AdjustingyourLens #activeadvice #fuelsofengagement

Anyone can say- “don’t eat added sugar” or “consume x number of grams of protein/day”but a registered dietitian can translate the science to the sips, the numbers to the bites with foods one will eat, is willing to prepare and fits within one’s budget. #resonatewithrelevance #onesizedoesnotfitall #nutritioninfofromthosethatdoknow #fuelsofengagement

This is why we do it. Performance nutrition recommendations are much more than “macros”. We must consider affordability, culinary ability, food familiarity, maintainability, relatability and underlying health concerns, history of eating disorders/disordered eating. Being an athlete, and/or obtaining a nutrition coaching certificate is NOT equivalent to the education required to be a registered dietitian and board certified specialist in sports dietetics. #clinforthewin #sportsnutritioninfofromthosethatdoknow #fuelsofengagement

Rather than do as I say, instill fear or promote intimidation and misinformation over education - to be an effective and empathetic communicator we must work to cultivate trust, prioritize our patients/athletes over our self interest and be the passenger not the driver. #seasonedwithreason #sageasweage #fuelsofengagement
